Meet Our Team

Kara Bass, Art Instructor

Hello, I’m Kara Bass and I’ll be your instructor for this course! As this is an online, asynchronous course we will be communicating via email and I won’t get the opportunity to introduce myself to all of you, so here is a blurb about me so that you can get to know your instructor a little bit better.

I have been doodling my entire life (as most people do), but I didn’t decide to pursue art as a career until my freshman year of high school. Since then I have tirelessly practiced, observed, and doodled to my heart’s content until I got accepted into Chapman University as a Fine Art major.

While I have a love for the fine arts, I wanted my art to be able to move, breathe, and tell its own story, so I transferred to Cogswell Polytechnical College (which would change its name to the University of Silicon Valley during the COVID-19 pandemic) in my sophomore year to turn my art focus to animation. I have since graduated University of Silicon Valley and worked several odd jobs as an animator and storyboard artist until I found this position at Soul Stash Studio where I get to practice and teach both fine art and animation!

I have offered to draw with many people as a fun activity, and I have heard way too often “I’m not good at it” or “I can’t draw anything but a stick figure”. I believe vehemently that art is both a skill, and a passion- a skill in the sense that it takes time to improve, and a passion in the sense that you should never have to feel that you must be “good” to enjoy the simple act of drawing. I also believe in the power of boredom- letting your mind wander and seeing what it creates, and the ability to draw just makes the imagination a little more fun!

Jeremiah Brown, Art Instructor

Hello, I’m Jeremiah Brown and I have several art courses and pieces of art for commission. I am excited to teach you about basic shapes in hand drawings and show you the artwork that I have completed. I am currently working on creating a series of books and hope to publish them by the end of this year.
